-------Introduction----------
We the soldiers, scientists, and engineers of the Zeon Imperium seek to establish our place in the history books of the Novus Aeterno universe! We seek friends who wish join our glorious cause and help us ensure that we will never be forgotten!

In the beginning, there was the war.

One by one, the sleeper ships revived their occupants, and the leaders of the future that had been engineered by the past stepped, blinking, into the light of unfamiliar suns. On their shoulders rested the hopes and dreams of the ancestors who had safeguarded them against the cataclysm, and to them fell the monumental task of creating a galaxy where their descendants could live safely and happily. Many of them would not survive the coming decades.

Neighbor fought neighbor and brother fought sister as the newly-formed societies quickly succumbed to their baser instincts. As had been repeated throughout the annals of now-forgotten history, while there was always more land to be settled, there was never enough to satisfy the urge to expand. And it was much easier to expand into known territories than to strike out into the wilderness of the stars.

Here, the stories of the Verunasi and humanity diverge. The Verunasi continued to fight, and became stronger as a society for it. As iron sharpens iron, so does one Veru'nas when it fights another. When the bodies of both combatants are honed to perfection and both have been fighting since birth, it is not the stronger fighter, or the faster, or the more experienced that wins in combat. It is the most clever one that rises to the top. In this manner, the Verunasi fought among themselves until one stood above the rest as the undisputed champion and leader of the Imperium.

Humans valued cleverness as much as the Verunasi did, but for them, the trait was not honed in battle, but in trade. The strongest fleet in the sector could be defeated by the proper application of a purse full of credits. The most clever of the sleepers built economic empires that their children and grandchildren would go on to use to dominate the politics of human space. Borders were eventually drawn, and when the humans grew weary of the constant mistrust and hostility between their neighbors, they created an overseeing authority backed by the wealth, strength, and authority of some of the largest trade empires. This came to be known as the Zeon Confederacy.

Settled into their respective governments, the humans and the Verunasi began to expand their borders, this time as generally unified societies rather than squabbling monarchs. As they explored, they wondered to themselves what happened to the other four dominant species documented in the records of the sleeper ships. They wondered if they were the only species that had taken measures to ensure its survival. They wondered if they were alone.

Each species soon had an answer to its question. And the war began anew.

Though humans could not match the ferocity and strength of the Verunasi, the Verunasi similarly could not overcome the humans' numbers. For every human ship that was destroyed, three more would take its place. The oviparous quadrupeds suffered slow attrition, and the mammalian bipeds watched their economies shrivel under the strain of constant war. But neither would yield.

Into this chaos sauntered the pirate lord Ogren, a former human admiral who had convinced his fleet to defect and begin preying upon the worlds they had once been charged to protect. Knowing that neither side could afford to open a second front to the war, he began picking off worlds along both borders, human and Veru'nas alike, enslaving the populations and funneling their economies directly into his treasury. As the years passed and the war raged on, Ogren sat at the head of an ever-growing fleet, crewed by defectors of captured planets, and never touched by the attrition that so affected the navies of the conflicting species. The fleet soon eclipsed that of the Confederacy and the Imperium, and eventually came to be as large as both combined. Tasked with feeding and fueling the largest fleet in known history, and faced with no meaningful opposition, Ogren soon became discontent with feeding off the scraps of the two alliances.

He planned his strike carefully. When the largest battle yet occurred between the humans and the Verunasi, a third party appeared that neither had counted on. Caught in a crossfire between each other and the pirate lord's forces, the bulk of the two navies were soon obliterated. As individual empires, both the Confederacy and the Imperium were doomed.

But there has always been one truly unifying force in history, one call that would never fail to unite: the emergence of a common enemy. When this new foe emerged from his stronghold and declared war against both species, they finally had common ground upon which war-weary diplomats could lay the foundations of an alliance. The weapons that both sides had crafted so carefully to satisfy their baser instincts were now aimed not at each other, but against a deadly opponent in the pursuit of a shared goal: the very survival of their civilizations. Humankind and the Verunasi, who had drowned for so long in each other's blood, were united if only for the briefest moment against a formidable enemy they both shared.

Warriors of differing genomes became brothers in battle. One Veru'nas in particular developed such a degree of respect for the humans he fought alongside that he began studying their tactics. Where Verunasi fighting tended to focus on the individual above all else, human strategies placed the unit as the highest priority. When he tried applying these lessons to his own forces, the other commanders mocked him mercilessly for it. They even went so far as to call him a primate (a dire insult among the Verunasi) for wanting to be like the humans. But as his tactics paid off and he began outstripping his peers, he wore the insult as a badge of honor. He was similarly ridiculed when he announced his intent to challenge the leader of the Imperium. They called him 'whelp,' and 'unworthy.' When he brought down his opponent in a publicly-broadcasted event, he wore this too with pride, and from that day forward referred to himself as the Upstart Monkey.

As the war raged on, first against the Veru'nas and then against Ogren, conditions in the Confederacy continued to deteriorate. To the average citizen, it mattered not whether the forces of humanity had gained ground or lost that week. They were all starving. To divert resources from the military to the civilian sector would be to risk the end of their way of life, everyone knew that. It even served as incentive for recruiting into a service that had long ago stopped trying to mask its mortality rate. But for those who remained behind, it served as little consolation. Whether at the hands of aliens, slavers, or the simple lack of life necessities, the end seemed all but inevitable.

As deflation crippled the economies of the core worlds, and commerce ground to a halt, a member of the Legislative Assembly stepped forward with a proposed plan. Under his strategy, the unemployed of the empire would be relocated at government cost to the agricultural worlds, where crops were being left to rot by farmers who could not afford maintenance for their harvesting equipment. At the same time, the academic institutions of the Confederacy would devote their resources to the development of new automation technologies that could revitalize the dying industrial centers by reducing their overhead costs and increasing their output. On top of all of this, the barter system would be implemented at the populace level as a stop-gap measure. In addition to earned wages, workers would be permitted to take home some measure of what they produced, to be used or traded as they saw fit.

This three-pronged plan to revive the crippled empire was considered controversial at best. Not everyone thought it was even a good idea, and those that did almost always thought that one side of the solution should be strengthened at the expense of its opposites. The only thing that most did agree on was that something had to be done, or else the Confederacy would crumble to dust and leave the military nothing to defend. The proposal passed by the barest of margins, and was put to work.

The changes were not immediate, and many lives got worse before they got better. But as the economy slowly climbed back to its feet and people no longer had to worry about whether they would eat that week, nobody doubted who was responsible for the improvements. The Assembly member responsible for the bill was named as a Minister of the Legislature, and as his voice was heard on more and more issues, things continued to improve. He seemed to have an instinctive insight into the heart of any matter, and under his guidance, the Confederacy rose once more. He has a name, as all men do, but history will remember him for what he did, not for who he was. He is, and forever shall be known as The Merchant.

For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. In nature, these forces typically oppose each other, but in the rare instances when they align, marvelous things can happen. When the power of the Confederacy's economy combined with the might of the Imperium's military, the pirate lord could not even compete. What he had captured in a month would be retaken in a day, and his navy was swept aside like a leaf in a tornado. Nearly as quickly as it had begun, the threat of the rogue admiral was removed, and the leaders of the two governments turned to their next biggest problem: what to do about each other.

Both empires had been ravaged by the wars that had been fought across their systems, and neither could survive another generation of conflict. While both sides had been given ample reason to hate the other, each agreed that old conflicts had to be put to rest in order for peace to be established. And both recognized that were the two civilizations simply to sign a treaty, the fighting would begin anew as soon as a generation was born that did not remember the torments of war. The only way to ensure that both would survive was to make something that had never been seen before: not just an alliance of species, but a joining of them.

There was, of course, much resistance to this idea at all levels of the two societies. Some didn't want a species responsible for the deaths of billions of their kinsmen to be considered equals, some didn't think the two societies would be at all compatible, and some were simply xenophobic. But one by one, enough were persuaded that all other options were worse that a majority vote was established on both sides.

The Imperium and the Zeon Confederacy disappeared into the last burning embers of the war, and the Zeon Imperium was born from the ashes.

-------In-Game Goals--------

.To make our mark on the history and lore of Novus Aeterno,
by any means available.
.To allow easy and efficient access to technology, resources,
and information between our members.
.To ensure all members have the ability to openly express their issues and
concerns so that, as a group, those concerns may be fixed.
.To expand our borders through economic, diplomatic or if necessary,
militaristic means.

-------Information about the Imperium----------
The Imperium is a Limited Monarchy system where power is split between two branches of government; the Kaiser and the Zeon Assembly. The Zeon Assembly is where all members of the Imperium are going to be able to bring up the issues that their empire is dealing with. This will allow all of our members to know what is going on throughout the alliance and allow for, hopefully, more cooperation between our members.

Every aspect of Novus Aeterno will have a sub-alliance faction behind it in the Imperium.
Military: Spear of Zeon, Hammer of Zeon, and the Sword of Zeon
Economic: Pillars of Zeon
Research: Project Zeon
Interested persons are more than welcome to apply to each wing, however we will become more and more specific about who we look for
as time goes on and space fills up in each.

The other branch of power within the Imperium is the Kaiser, the overall leader of the
Imperium. The Kaiser will act similarly to the Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, but
unlike in the HRE, the Emperor position is not voted upon. The Kaiser has the task of
representing the Imperium when dealing with other Alliances and will have final say over
laws and decisions that involve the Imperium as a whole. Any declarations of war must
be approved by both the Zeon Assembly and the Kaiser.

The Armies and Navies of the Imperium will be under the central command of the Office
of the Grand Admiral of the Navies. The Grand Admiral is not a position that is voted on.
During times of war, the Grand Admiral will have the ability to call upon all the forces
of all Imperium members in order to maximize the effectiveness of our forces, or when
deemed necessary to assist allies. Each military sub-alliance will be under the direct control
and command of the Grand Admiral, in times of war, each with a specific function and role
to play. The Grand Admiral is in charge of all promotions within the military wings of the
Imperium, however they are required to take in to account the concerns and suggestions
of the admirals and commodore.

The next officer is the commodore. The job of the Commodore is to assist the GA in times
of war in coordinating with allied forces and Imperium fleets. Their main focus will always be with the military, however they also act in a similar fashion with regards to all other
Imperium sub-alliances. As well as a sort of monitor of our official forums.

The information gathering that will be necessary for the navies of the Imperium and it's allies to function will be conducted under the direct administration of the Head of Intelligence.

The Head of Economic Development will be striving to achieve the best economy in the
Imperium, and using this to advise other members on how to become more economically
developed. As well as overseeing every aspect of the Pillars of Zeon, the economic powerhouse sub-alliance of the Imperium.

The Head of Scientific Research will have a very similar job, to simply achieve as much research as possible as quickly as possible in order to inform the other members and the Zeon Assembly on the most effective and cost-effective technologies. Any advanced technologies will be taken by Project Zeon (sub-alliance) and distributed to leaders of different alliances depending on how relevant each tech is to that wing. The research head will also work to oversee every aspect of research wing's sub-alliance, Project Zeon.

-------To all other alliances-------
The Imperium does not wish to start wars with any alliance or person. Do not mistake that
for weakness. If we are thrust into one, we will finish it and crush our enemies. If any leaders of new alliances want a pact of any kind with the Imperium, we are more than open to it. In the event that you do wish to seek diplomatic relations with us, contact the Kaiser as he deals with diplomatic affairs.

-------Applying/Diplomacy-------
We have a website now, anyone that is interested in joining any wing of the Imperium send in an application through thesystem on our site. That being said we will still reply here, but we will simply direct you to our site as it is the official system. Any leaders of new alliances being founded, the Imperium is open to any andall pacts. We will require that they be flexible however as well as negotiable.

We are still accepting applications for the Imperium's various sub-alliances, which includes the research, economy, intelligence, and all the military sub-alliances.

Because people have been constantly getting answers wrong on the application, partly my fault there, I have added this handy cheat sheet.

Application Cheat Sheet

Influences on the name and structure of the Zeon Imperium.

Glad that you are allies with the The Consortium of Planets.
You don't win a war by dying for your country. You win it by making the other die for their country.
