To all alliances

How long do you think you can last without an alliance? That's what I thought; get in here and find yourself a home!

To all alliances

To any "major" alliance, you may want to think twice about having a rather public intellegence branch of your alliance. Start thinking about black ops, keep them small. With the whole map system you may want to have a handful of players dedicated to your alliance outside of your alliance to act as double agents or produce maps for you. Now I don't know how much information will be displayed when a player is in an alliance but chances are if you are with an alliance it will be shown. Having a handful not in your alliance or even having them within a rival alliance as part of their intellegece branch will be nothing but an advantage to your group. Sure you could use mercenaries or trust in your "pacts" but mercenaries can be bought out and pacts don't always survive the test of time. Remember the act of toasting at the dinner table was born out of the medieval fear of being poisoned.

Honestly this just seems like common sense to me, what is the point of any intelligence branch if the whole forums know about it. Especially important is keeping the members secret to everyone including members of your alliance.

I know ive just seen some alliances visibly displaying the NAME of their intelligence branch and i am assuming that like other mmo's when you encounter someone who is within an alliance it will broadcast that information. For example your "hammer of Zeon" its easy to see that they are part of your alliance but a player flying around without an alliance cant broadcast who they are allied too.

edit: before you say it yes i am aware that your hammer is part of your military not intelligence and other details im sure you assume i dont know. This post was merely meant for those who don't realize it... *cough*consortium*cough*

Who displayed the name of their intelligence branch? Also, for you to assume that as a security concern on their end may be a mistake?

I am feeling inspired.... announcement to come!

When you first encounter someone in space you can not see his name or the name of the alliance he is in.
It will require a lot of intelligence work on your side to get access to such information.

And with that Tyrius has essentially undone one of my biggest points for this thread. Ok so what information IS available with "first contact" visually I could care less about, I want to know what text base information is there. When I right click what can I see? Their name obviously but what else?
