[Development] Tactical Map

The tactical map is a view from a much higher perspective, great for seeing the larger area; you can also command your units from this view. It is activated by pressing [space bar].

We have done quite a lot of improvements of the tactical map UI, its current form shows planets and their rotation path around the sun. It also gives you info (like planet name, system number, etc)

And of course you can see multiple systems at one time since the galaxy is persistent and seamless!

Took me a few to actually think of / find questions or critiques for this.. A lot of this is probably just because of difficulty understanding information from a screen capture vs. playing the game itself (since actually playing it would provide the info needed to determine this)

Is there any kind of significance to:
1) The lines (orbits) with no planets on them ?
2) Is there significance to the size of the circles around the planets themselves? (Looks like it's simply relative to the planet size itself right now)
3) It looks like Blue-ish = yourself, orange-ish = enemy? Is there different colors used for allies, or "neutral" parties?

Answers, so far:
1) If there is no planet on it, it's simply because you don't see the planet (out of the screen), but there is a planet for every circle.
2) Subject to change. These circles represent the area of sight and influence of each planet. Some technologies or improvement may change the size of the circle, but for now it's planet's size-related.
3) You got the color code right. Other colors aren't shown on these screen grabs because the playtests aren't focuses on alliances at this time.

yea, in the first you can see some unoccupied planets; they don't have icons around them; also planets you don't see or know who is on them do not have icons on them.
