since the question is about a module I will ask here,

if I have two motors and one go critical do I loose 50% speed?

if both motors get hit does the ship stop or keep going with the momentum?

if a motor gets hit can I still rotate the ship?

Engines provide both acceleration and rotation. If one engine is damaged it will reduce your acceleration and rotation based on what that component added. If you are already moving then you will lose speed, we don't have momentum mechanics programmed in to make it simple to track unit movement on our server.

I think it would be interesting if you could customize the ships Look a little also, maybe color the ships? and put decals? like a decal of your empires emblem or something.
